Today’s soccer predictions

- June 14 -

These are my tips:

Holland - Denmark
Denmark will win this, for sure. Holland has tulips, Denmark has sausage. That means they also have this game.

Japan - Kamerun
I have no idea what they eat in Kamerun, so I had to google it. The answer? their national dish is ndolé; a stew that consists of bitterleaf (google it), nuts and fish or goat. My vote goes to Japan this time. Sushi, yakiniku and stray dogs. Game over, Kamerun!

Italy - Paraguay
In Paraguay they eat a dish called sopa. In Swedish, this means garbage. Enough said. Italy will win. Remember where you heard it first, folks.

Soccer predictions

- June 11 -

I’ve always wondered what team to cheer on when watching, for example, a soccer game where you don’t have any personal connection at all to either of the teams.

In order to try to maintain my friendship with Mia, I will try to do my best to follow the world cup. Well, at least try to engage in some way. That’s why I had a hard look at today’s games, followed by a long thought process in order to decide what teams to cheer on.

Apparently today’s games are:
South Africa - Mexico
Uruguay - France

My decision:
I hope Mexico and France wins. Mexico seems like a nice place for vacations, and I love chili con carne. France has Zidane (or is he too old to play nowadays?), and the only thing I know about him is that he head-butts people on the field. Who can say no to that? Well, I can’t. Also, I love croissants.

Mia & Me

This year mine and Mia's friendship celebrates 10 years, and I consider her my best friend. Being friends with someone for that long might lure you in to thinking you know that person, and that person knows you. Yesterday I realized she's had me fooled. She doesn't know me at all.
So, how did I discover this? By this Skype conversation:
Mia: Emma! The Soccer World Cup starts tomorrow! That's nice!
Me: To be honest, I'm not that into it.
Mia: But if you start getting in to it you'll like it!
Me: To me, soccer is just slightly more fun than going far, far out on the countryside to see the worlds biggest ball of yarn.
Mia: But if you start watching at the beginning of the tournament you'll know all about it... and then you can guess which teams will win and stay in the game.
Me: Or you can watch that ball of yarn and guess how many slaves died picking all that cotton...
Mia: But something always happens... someone gets a head-butt or something. And it's a great atmosphere! I mean, it only happens every four years!
Me: Yes, but if World War III suddenly breaks out it wouldn't be fun just because there were so many years since the last time...

What are the odds?

This weekend I got a visit from Tomas. We sat in the harbour, and I told him about the naked man I had seen there a few weeks ago.

No longer than 30 seconds later, another naked man showed up. He walked pass us, dressed in a bandana, socks and shoes that from the looks of them seemed very comfortable.

Maybe he wasn’t technically naked since he wore a bandana, but at least he knew the importance of head protection when being outside in the blazing sun.

Google Maps fail

- May 18 -

Thanks for the suggestion Google Maps, but I’ll have to say no. Well of course, I guess we just have different opinions on distances. Barcelona is closer to the USA than it is to the moon for example, I’ll give you that.
